How To Organize Your Bathroom

Today I have been giving my bathroom a major de-clutter and clean. It gave me a few ideas on how to maximize available space and clean the room quickly and easily, so I thought I would detail them here. If you have any additional pointers then do please post a comment.

Cleaning/Tidying
Below are the minimum set of tools you need to effectively clean:

  • Spray cleaner as they are much more effective at covering all the necessary surfaces. Spray the sink, bath, toilet etc with cleaner and leave it for a couple of minutes to let it do its work.
  • Hygienic wipes. They may be slightly more wasteful than a normal wipe but this is balanced by ease of use especially when combined with a spray cleaner. You use less water too and if you have a tiled floor you can use them for that too, saving money on a mop and bucket.
  • Good quality toilet brush because otherwise it won’t clean properly and as you want to be getting right down the bowl, you don’t want it snapping!
  • Window cleaner for the mirror and any other metal/glass surfaces.
  • Air freshener because… well, you know :)
  • This is something that doesn’t always get suggested but get yourself an old toothbrush as they are ideal for those tight corners and scrubbing lime scale from around taps, shower heads, etc.

Organizing
The following points are suggestions to keep the room organized:

  • Have some hooks on the back of the door, for dressing gowns, coats and clothes. You can even hang towels there if necessary. You can screw basic hooks in or if you don’t want to put holes in the door, get over door hooks which simply hangs off the top of the door.
  • Have a large towel rail so towels are kept off the floor with plenty of room left over. If it’s a big one you can also hang clothes on it too. Ultimately you want to make sure clothes, towels, etc are not dumped on the floor.
  • Provide a basket or similar storage device for each member of the household to keep their toiletries. That way they take on their own little responsibility for keeping the bathroom tidy.
  • Speaking of toiletries, they are the key products that need regular attention if you want to keep de-cluttered. Regularly work through them and throw away any empty, unused, old/crusty items.
