4 Healthy Ways To Deal With Colds And Flu

Winter is around the corner which means the cold weather is starting to kick in bringing with it lots of colds and fevers. So it was only fitting that I would take a look at how you can better deal with a cold and hopefully recover quicker or even avoid getting one at all. These tips are based on my own personal experience, I used to get colds regularly so I’ve had the practice :)

  • Take your vitamins and eat healthy.
Getting a good supply of nutrients, minerals and vitamins boosts energy levels and keeps the immune system fighting fit. If you eat rubbish all the time your body gets full of toxins which slows it down, and most importantly makes your immune system weaker. Remember when your body is fighting a cold it has to work a lot harder and use up more energy. By eating healthy you are essentially giving your body the extra fuel it needs.
  • Get plenty of sleep.
The primary benefit of sleep is in boosting the immune system, which is the key to all this. It works at its best during sleep and people who don’t get enough of it have impaired immune functions because their energy levels are not being replenished. Furthermore you will feel even more lethargic and groggy if you add tiredness to your cold symptoms.
  • Clear your nose.
All that snot and phlegm is there to trap the germs from colds. Unfortunately if you don’t clear it out from your throat and nose, all those germs linger in your head making things a whole lot worse for you. When your nose is running, don’t keep sniffing! Pull the tissues out and clear it from yours system.
  • Drink plenty of water.
I have covered the benefits in a earlier post but I will go into some details here on how it helps with colds. Water primarily flushes out toxins and other impurities in the body, as well as helping in the production of mucus which ties in closely with the tip above. As the body uses more fluids to fight off colds it makes sense to keep yourself topped up. Like being tired, being dehydrated is also something that will make you feel worse, especially with headaches and aching joints.
