How To Better Manage Your Reading Material

If you are inclined to keep all the reading material that comes into your house, you will find that it quickly takes up space and gets in the way. Despite what you might feel at the time, in the vast majority of instances you won’t ever go through that magazine or book again once you have read it.

If it is something like a newspaper that only covers a particular day’s worth of events then they can definitely be thrown out. If there are any articles or information you think you might want to refer to again in the future, rip it out and file away in some storage device like a folder because let’s face it, there is no point in keeping the entire magazine if you are only interested in one or two pages. The same rules can be applied to books which can be especially bad for taking up space. The most simple and cheapest way around this is to simply not buy any books and just use the library or borrow from friends instead. Alternatively buy used books from sites like eBay and Amazon. You can sell them on again at minimal loss.

Consider purchasing a magazine rack for newspapers and magazines so they are all kept together and organized. Then make a regular effort to tidy it out and throw away irrelevant items. I personally aim to do this every month or so and often find myself throwing out two or three newspapers and half a dozen magazines from other members of the household. For other bits of paper and spam that comes into the home use a in/out tray. Each tray can be labeled to store whatever you want. Either way they are an ideal size for collecting these extra bits of paper. Like the magazine rack be sure to clear it out regularly.
