Develop Habits With Repetition

Feel you need to go to the gym but you would much rather watch television? Want to stay in and cook rather than eating out every night but can never be bothered after a hard day at work? Can you relate to those scenarios? If you find yourself meaning to do something but you always put it off by saying to yourself you will do it another time this post is for you.

I’m not going to offer some great motivational tool here regarding how to get over this because you can read all the self improvement books in the world but at the end of the day it’s simply down to you find your motivation. The important thing to bear in mind when it comes to getting up and doing whatever it is you want/need to do - whether it be going to the gym, eating in, etc - is that if you do it enough times it gets to the point where it becomes a force of habit.

I use those two examples because they are very appropriate to my life. After even just a week or two of staying in and cooking my own food, it has became so much easier (dare I say, it has even started becoming a natural thing to do). Perhaps predictably, after a week long holiday I was right back to eating out again. With some things you just have to keep repeating them.

My motto is, “If you can do it for two weeks you can do it forever”. By adopting this motto I’ve been able to create new habits and traits.
