In the first part of my series discussing how to boost your creativity I looked at the five basics that are required to get those creative juices flowing. The fifth point covered the importance of finding the right location. In fact I believe that your surroundings are so important in boosting your creativity, that in this post I will list my own top five inspirational locations. This is by no means a definitive list but I hope it will encourage you to think of your own favorite places to visit.
- Nature (countryside, beach, forest)
I believe that your creativity needs room to breath. Being stuck in a small office won’t do, so where better than the large outdoors with all that fresh air? The sound of birds in the sky, the breeze running through the trees, the rolling hills… many great artists have benefited from being in nature.
- Library, art museum, theater
Perhaps the ultimate sources of inspiration out there are places where other people’s creativity efforts are kept. Whether it be works of art or great literature, there are many places out there. What’s more, these places are usually great for researching your ideas too.
- Spa, jacuzzi, pool
As I mentioned in my previous post, being relaxed is very important in boosting your creativity as it frees up your mind to actually think without being distracted by any stresses. Thus, it makes sense that taking it easy in a jacuzzi or getting a massage in a spa can really chill you out.
- Somewhere high!
Give yourself an alternative (and often epic) viewpoint on the world by getting up high and seeing the world for miles around. Whether it be on a hill, a mountain or a skyscraper, you get to see things from a different perspective. An awe-inspiring view can really inspire.
- A different country
Sometimes your routine, day-to-day lifestyle can cause your mind to get stuck in a rut. The same work, the same schedules… Shake things up! Take yourself on a holiday to another country and experience a new culture, lifestyle and climate.
