Organize IT recap for 09th April 2007.
- Stephen from Productivity In Context recently introduced me to a new tool for getting organized in one his his blog posts, called Post-it cards. As the name implies, they look like a cross between index cards and your typical post-it notes, except – wait for it – they don’t stick to each other so they can be carried and shuffled around. Do they sound like something you’d be interested in trying? Let me know in the comments!
- I’ve become a big fan of the 80/20 rule recently and the more I’ve read about it the more I’ve found it has practical uses in all walks of life. One post that has really opened my eyes to how flexible the rule is this one by Scott Young. Not only can you apply it to work tasks, but also food, reading material, spring cleaning, your budget…
- Whenever I want to research something Wikipedia is almost always the first site I visit. But what about other sources of information? The Online Education Database has a detailed list of other websites you can visit for researching purposes. I’ve not tried many of them myself, so I’d be curious about what your experiences (if any) of those sites are.
- Something slightly different but still useful, is the Consumer Report’s collection of crash tests searchable by car make. While one hopes never to be involved in a serious accident, it’s always worth being aware of how well your car would stand up in an impact. If you’re looking at buying a new car, this site might give you something to think about.
- I feel I had to post this tip via Unclutterer because it is so simple yet so clever. If you are on a long holiday take a few manilla envelopes with you. It’s normal to build up a large collection of pictures, brochures, maps and guides that can take up a lot of space so why not post them home midway through your travels?
