Organize IT recap for 29th September 2007

  • First off I want to draw your attention to some changes I made regarding commenting on this site. I like getting comments, and I would like to see more of them so with that in mind I want to give back to those who comment. Firstly, I have removed the nofollow tag which means if you put your site in the URL box when filling in a comment, it will actually mean something to Google. I have also added a list of the top commentators. As thanks I aim to comment more on their sites in return.
  • This dress code guide is pretty nifty. It gives you advice on what to wear for different occasions and climates, ranging from casual to formal.
  • David Allen now writes for the Huffington Post as a blogger and already has two interesting articles up about GTD. This could be very interesting if he updates on a regular basis as who is there better to write about GTD, than the author himself?
  • More David Allen for you. According to Wired we are all cultists and he is our guru… It’s a very extensive article looking at David himself, how he came up with GTD and what it involves. Well worth reading.

Apologies for the downtime the last 24 hours. I’ve seen the bandwidth usage of the site increase every month as the site got more popular but it must have really jumped recently and it caught me by surprise when I hit the limit. It’s funny how sometimes you don’t act to resolve a situation until the situation has actually happened. However, what was rather more aggrieving was how it unexpectedly took over 24 hours for my web hosts to deal with a simple request to purchase extra bandwidth. I’ll be taking web host issues a lot more seriously from now on.

The downtime came just when I had spent a good while writing a great post called Getting Things Done… Faster which I was hoping to get plenty of comments and feedback on. So if you didn’t get a chance to read the post because the site was down please still do so, I’d like to hear your thoughts.

When it comes to maximizing how productive you can be there is a lot of talk about adopting frameworks like GTD or Covey’s Seven Habits, cutting down your projects list to the essentials, finding the right tools, avoiding procrastination etc. However in this article I want to discuss another point to increasing your productivity that tends to get overlooked – speeding up your work so that that you will be getting things done faster (for the purposes of this post lets call it GTDF).
