My Productivity Templates Revised

October 22nd 2007 Productivity 4 comments

When I originally started Organize IT, one of the main things I focused was on my collection of productivity templates that I had designed. One of the problems I had with tools like Filofax was that the sheets and refills did not fit my vision of an ideal GTD system or suit my specific needs. Thus, the logical step was to design my own sheets. I wanted them to be as low maintenance as possible to save on printing costs and I wanted enough variety to cover all circumstances. For too long I’ve left them lying around on my computer which is a waste quite frankly, so from today I am going to start putting them all up on the site for everyone to use. For all the latest updates and download links you can go to this specially created page. The first batch of templates I am putting up are listed below. If you have any thoughts, ideas or suggestions then please get in touch, and be sure to let me know if you find them useful :)

  • Contacts list A4 A5
  • Next actions list A4 A5
  • Phone numbers A4 A5
  • Roles & responsibilities A4 A5
  • Vertical map A4 A5
  • Weekly planner A4 A5
  • Priority matrix A4 A5

Hi James,
Excellent, I love the vertical map and the generic weekly planner. With respect to the vertical map: do you have an idea how to make it less “volatile”? I’ve resorted to not listing my “runway” and “10,000ft” items there, because I don’t want to throw away the whole sheet containing long-term items whenever the short-lived stuff changes.

One of the advantages of the weekly planner is I don’t have to worry about keeping it neat, as I print out a new one every week. On the vertical map you could try crossing out the short-lived stuff as you complete them and then every week/month print a new sheet. I know it requires a bit of re-writing but it’s a good opportunity to re-evaluate your long term items. Hope that helps.

Thanks for sharing these. Can you tell me what program you used to create them? I just started using your weekly planner, which I found very useful this week, but I have some changes I would make for my own long-term use and wanted to create my own. Thanks!

I used to use OpenOffice Draw, though with these new templates I use OpenOffice Calc. If you need any further explanation then leave a comment.
