Seeing as I am currently cracking down on self-help myths at the moment I thought this was interesting. Stephen over at HD BizBlog has done some research about the commonly held belief you can change an habit in 21 days.
I’m all for simplifying life, after all too much of anything is bad. As such, this post over at the ever impressive Zen Habits interested me and covers how to escape materialism.
If you are viewing the single post page, you may notice the big icons under the post (for example, go here and scroll down). I’m trying ways of encouraging people to submit the site to places like Digg and Reddit and want to hear your opinions. Do you prefer the new way or the old, more subtle way (which you can see on the home page)?
If anyone is looking for online backup and storage options then may I suggest Mozy. I downloaded it at the beginning of the week and have been impressed (at least so far). The free service provides 2gb of space which is decent enough (not the best but certainly not the worst). What’s made me like the system is the fact it can be setup to automatically backup files, either at specific times or when your computer is not in use. I am typing this post on my laptop and right now on my idle desktop the Mozy program has just popped up and is backing up (and encrypting) some files. I’m all for low-bloat, low-hassle programs! If anyone has tried it or use any other online storage options then leave a comment and share your thoughts.
You did a poor presentation and your boss is giving you an hard time, your friends have all deserted you, and your marriage is on the rocks. Well that’s what it feels like anyway. In actuality things are rarely as bad as they seem. More often than not you need to gain some perspective.
The whole point of this Self-Help Myths series is to provide an alternative perspective on common self-help topics and one of the biggest topics in productivity circles is that of procrastination. It is the great bad habit that causes you to get distracted when you should be working and makes you rush your projects at the last minute. There is so much information out there on how to “overcome” it (even I have an article on it) that you can ironically spend much of your time researching the topic.
The Apple iPhone release is getting closer guys, are you excited? I’ve canceled my gym membership, stopped eating out and have had cold showers everyday for the last six months so I have enough money to buy one. Why? So I can watch “hilarious” YouTube videos of course!
