Seinfeld And The Habit Tracker

January 28th 2008 Productivity 2 comments

It’s been a while since I added to my collection of productivity templates so I thought I would rectify that situation today. My latest template basically allows you to easily implement Jerry Seinfeld’s productivity secret. The idea is that each day you work on a big project or habit you put a large cross over the appropriate date on a calendar. If you repeat this process everyday you end up with a chain effect. This really motivates you to keep working on your project or habit because you really won’t want to break that long chain you’ve built up.

I’ve always thought that this was a great idea so I’ve decided to create a template for it. You can get it in both A4 and A5 sizes. It’s slightly different from my usual templates in that you can cut each sheet up into strips (you can get five habit trackers from each print). I’ve personally found it effective to use a new strip if I ever break the chain, that way there is the extra incentive to make a new longer chain with each attempt. It’s very much a work in progress which is why I would be grateful for any feedback you can give. My intention is to improve on it and make it as usable as possible. For instance, I hope to add a date column to it in the near future and maybe have it cover a monthly period rather than the random fifty seven days it currently covers. If you try it out let me know how it goes.
