This is my regular collection of inspiring, intriguing and occasionally amusing quotes that I’ve discovered over the last couple of months. This edition includes quotes from Alfred North Whitehead, John Schaar and several others.
Alfred Souza: “For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, or a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life.”
E.C. McKenzie: “It is easy to dodge our responsibilities, but we cannot dodge the consequences of dodging our responsibilities.”
I Ching: “Just as the tumultuous chaos of a thunderstorm brings a nurturing rain that allows life to flourish, so too in human affairs times of advancement are preceded by times of disorder. Success comes to those who can weather the storm.”
Alfred North Whitehead: “The art of progress is to preserve order amid change and to preserve change amid order.”
John Schaar: “The future is not some place we are going, but one we are creating. The paths are not to be found, but made. The activity of making them changes both the maker and their destination.”
