Luck and being lucky is a funny concept. Nobody is born naturally more lucky than anyone else. Those people who are always in the right place at the right time and get the big breaks in their careers largely make their own luck, whether they are aware of it or not. Compared to something like winning a lottery, which is pure chance, with luck you have the ability to influence it and increase those chances of being lucky. A few months I did a mini series focusing on getting creative. The first part covered the necessary tools required, while the second part looked at locations you can visit to encourage creative thinking. However, as someone recently pointed out, all these tips helped to encourage existing creative thought, but they didn’t help you to think creatively in the first place. You did a poor presentation and your boss is giving you an hard time, your friends have all deserted you, and your marriage is on the rocks. Well that’s what it feels like anyway. In actuality things are rarely as bad as they seem. More often than not you need to gain some perspective.

How we prioritize things in our life is determined by a number of elements which I have detailed below. We all have some idea of our purpose and where we want to be in our life, even if it’s only short term goals, rather than some grand life plan and it is important to understand how they affect and influence our priorities during different stages of our life. We don’t just decide to do one task over another randomly. There is a logic to it based on those things you deem most important. Note the distinction between the influences in this post and short term influences such as time available, tools needed and immediate consequences.

These last two weeks I have been experimenting with having a weekly project. My first week involved doing a media fast. This week, I have been attempting to go to the gym for five days. The purpose of this is to break old, bad habits (in my case, procrastinating over going to the gym and wasting too much time watching TV and downloading music) and replace them with more positive ones. Spending seven days focusing on this is a good timeframe; not too short that you don’t get any benefit and not too long that you lose motivation. Below are the key points you need to bear in mind when considering doing your own weekly project.
